This was the official flag of Greece (First Hellenic Republic) in the War of Independence, and for 2 years after the acquisition of sovereignty. Later, it would be used again under the Second Hellenic Republic.

This was the longest-used flag in the history of the Modern Greek state. The final time it was taken down was in 1978, with the opening of the Third Hellenic Republic.

The flag above was the one used by the 4th of August Regime, under the dictator Ioannis Metaxas during his 6-year-rule.
